Zen experience and relaxation : Day 2
Saint Gilles Croix de Vie and the green coastline.
For this new Zen and Relaxation getaway at camping Val de Vie, let's set off to discover Saint Gilles Croix de Vie and the surrounding area... Initially, we propose a total immersion in this city of character.
To begin with, we invite you to the Place Guy Kergousti food market, which takes place every Wednesday and Saturday morning from 8am to 1pm.
This is an ideal gateway for the curious wishing to discover local specialities and specificities. It's an invitation to stroll around, an ode to simple pleasures...
A unique meeting place where you'll come across shopkeepers who promote local produce and artists who liven up the neighbourhood.
Get off the beaten track and visit Saint Gilles Croix de Vie...
Then take the opportunity to lose yourself in the narrow streets of its old quarters.
You'll feel the soul of this fishermen's town.
We invite you to continue your exploration by following the Vendée corniche for three kilometres. It reveals breathtaking panoramas. It's an enchanted interlude for young and old alike.
Needless to say, this programme will whet your appetite...
And that's just as well, because this is the place to be if you want to sample the local culinary specialities... If you're a fish or seafood lover, don't resist, give in to temptation.
There are plenty of restaurants in Saint Gilles to tempt your taste buds, but a few in particular caught our eye.
In no particular order, I quote
- Restaurant le Saint Gilles (French cuisine, fish and seafood)
- Restaurant la houle (located on the Corniche Vendéenne, the chef offers top-quality French cuisine with a focus on fish and seafood)
- Restaurant le Récif (I really like this crêperie with a sea view. The galettes are delicious and the other à la carte dishes just as tasty).
An invigorating afternoon in the heart of the countryside... Laughter and a change of scenery guaranteed...
Head for the village of Commequiers, a fifteen-minute drive away.
To discover the charm of the green coastline, we can suggest an activity that is, to say the least, singular, not to say unusual... The Commmequiers Bicycle Rail!
Another strange invention you might say! I'd say it's more like a "great idea".
Off we go for a two-hour ride (7 km out / 7 km back).
On foot? By bike? By train?
No, nothing like that, you'll be climbing aboard a draisine...
At the time, this machine was used to inspect railway lines.
Today, it will be your means of transport.
You'll be pulling this machine with the strength of your calves.
But believe us, it's well worth the effort! All along this route, which follows an old railway line, you'll discover the peace and charm of the Bas-Bocage, in a very friendly atmosphere.
Back home at your family campsite...
After such a day of discovery and fun, you'll be delighted to return to your cocoon. What better way to end the day than lounging on a deckchair on the edge of the covered swimming pool at our campsite in the Vendée and taking a dip in water heated to 28°.
It's the ideal way to recharge your batteries before getting together in the evening for a themed meal or a magic show.
