Experience 100 % curious family: Day 3

A cultural walk to discover our heritage...

At the mere mention of the Vendée, we inexorably think of those splendid stretches of sandThese forests of maritime pines and holm oaks immediately immerse us in a world of iodine, the open sea and distant horizons.
Yet the history of this land deserves to be known...

That's why we've decided to offer you a holiday experience based on history...

To start the day, head for la Roche sur Yon, a town created by Napoleon at the very beginning of the 19th century.
We invite you to discover the national stud farm. This is a place steeped in history whose mission is to promote the horse and the art of horsemanship. Strolling through this wooded park is truly enchanting.

What you need to know...

Every summer, at the end of the afternoon, you're invited to attend an astonishing show that combines humour, emotion and technical prowess... And it's worth noting that this show is a complete success. Between the impeccable staging and the talent of the riders, you'll come away from the show shaken to the core.

NB: The show is free for minors.

The animals on the square in La Roche sur Yon...

At the heart of the Place Napoléon, the city's nerve centre, we now find 13 animals made of wood and steel, which are the pride of the people of Yonn.
Many people were opposed to this project, but we have to admit that the voice of these detractors has become inaudible.
This curiosity attracts tourists, delights children and has transformed the whole dynamic of the town centre.
This is something to do before going for lunch in one of the many restaurants close to Place Napoléon.

An afternoon to remember...

To find out everything you need to know about our department, the best place to start is at l'historial de la Vendée.
This museum, which opened its doors in 2006, is located in Les Lucs sur Boulogne.
You'll take a leap 7,000 years back in time, then travel back through the corridors of time... Gradually, era by era, right up to the present day. Soon, the Vendée will no longer hold any secrets for you (although some are still well-guarded).

NB: It takes around twenty minutes to get there from La Roche sur Yon.

To round off a day rich in emotion, head for the Logis de la Chabotteriea key site in the Vendée wars.
It was here, in the Bois de la Chabotterie, that the saga of Charette, the man who gave hope to the people of the Vendée, came to an end.

His motto: "Often fought, sometimes beaten, never defeated".

You can explore the site on foot or take part in an Escape Game "Charette and the Forgotten Treasure" to make the visit even more fun.

The best part of the visit...

In July and August summer concerts...
To end the day on a high, what about a concert of jazz, flamenco or classical music in a sublime setting?
To give you an idea of the artists invited to this event, in 2021 the summer concerts welcomed Renaud Capuçon, Juan Carmona Septet and Kyle Eastwood Quintet...
Prestigious posters in a dream setting are a great idea for a romantic evening.

Tip: find out about the programme before you leave and book your tickets in advance if you want to be able to attend these concerts during your stay in France. camping in Val de Vie.
